ANJC PROGRAMS

We take a comprehensive approach to restoring dignity, respect and humanity to all Alaskan Native and Native Americans through Advocacy, Prevention and Intervention.  We have on going programs that come under each of these categories, and we are able to adapt our services to address issues that come up individually or within a community.

We adhere to the principles of restorative justice; providing training and technical assistance to those communities involved in developing tribal courts and other village-based justice systems. To accomplish our goals, we often partner with other organizations to collaborate and share expertise.

Advocacy – We encourage a proactive system where Alaska Natives and justice professionals foster a better understanding of indigenous justice principles and practices that lead towards systemic change.

Prevention – We take a proactive approach that empowers individuals and systems to meet the challenges of everyday life.  ANJC recognizes the important role of education as a part of an active process to detect and promote self-sufficiency.

Intervention – We believe that everyone deserves fair, equitable and culturally appropriate treatment, whether victim or defendant. At ANJC we assist individuals in navigating the legal system, and provide support during court proceedings.

ANJC operates programs statewide that provide direct victim services, legal advocacy, education, training, and technical assistance. We work extensively with Alaskan tribes, and the Alaska Native and American Indian populations.
